Separate appearance from working duty
Bright trim, handles and bumpers have an appearance-led requirement. A shaft or another loaded wear surface has a different engineering requirement. Decorative nickel-chrome and functional hard chrome are not interchangeable descriptions.
Assess the part before choosing a route
Record the substrate, damage, finished size and coating requirement. A visibly bright finish does not prove that a worn working surface has been restored to specification.
Compare restoration and replacement
Include preparation, coating, final finishing and inspection in the decision. Preservation of a vehicle, lower cost or increased resale value cannot be promised from the coating name alone.
Send clear requirements
Provide photographs of the whole part and damage, the material if known, dimensions and desired finish. This is general component-selection guidance, not a documented DVS classic-car case study.
