Define the conventional process
Conventional hard chrome plating uses hexavalent chromium bath chemistry. Specialised functional trivalent processes are also commercially available. Availability does not establish widespread adoption, equal performance for every application, or the bath chemistry used at DVS.
Separate availability from adoption
A commercial product establishes that a process exists. It does not measure market share, prove every application has moved to it, or establish the chemistry of a particular facility.
Evaluate a proposed alternative
Compare the specified thickness, working duty, substrate, final finishing, relevant tests and customer acceptance criteria. A change in chemistry cannot automatically be described as equal performance or legal compliance.
Keep the job specification central
Share the base material, component drawing, working area, dimensions, coating requirement and inspection criteria. Suitability and the finishing route must be agreed for the actual component. Ask the process supplier for evidence relevant to the actual coating system.
